Wallace Nutting Library

Title Unknown - Studio # Unknown

We have heard a few collectors comment that If you magnify the roadway midway between the two trees in this picture you will see an automobile. We concure that if you want to you can see what appears to be a silhouette of an old style vehicle. However, new technology has allowed us to magnify that area in greater detail and while we can't say there is not an automobile there we are highly suspicious that Wallace Nutting would have been so careless or absent of thought to photograph a pastoral setting with an automobile front and center. If by chance a passing vehicle made its way into the scene while Wallace Nutting was setting up for the photograph; he didn't notice until after the plate was exposed and dicided to keep the image anyway; I believe he would have removed the vehicle from the scene either on the master plate or on the colorist work bench.

My opinion: No there is not an automobile in this photograph.
