Process Pictures - 1930's - 1942
To boost sales in the 1930's the Nutting Studio made process pictures.
Initially, eight of Wallace Nutting's most popular pictures were used.
In 1942, after Wallace Nutting's death, four more titles were added to
the list. The process picture is 13" x 15" (+/-). They were sold close
framed, or matted and framed. If mounted on a mat the frame size will commonly
be 18" x 22" (+/-). They will not be signed and the title
will be on the mat below the lower right corner of the picture.
Pictures framed at the studio had a label affixed to the dust cover identifying
it as an 'authentic process picture'. The first eight titles sold
have the name, "© WALLACE NUTTING" embossed in gold block letters.
The four titles added in 1942 were embossed "COPYRIGHT 1942 WALLACE
NUTTING" If you are still in doubt examine the picture under magnification.
You will notice the matrix dots of the machine process instead of the hand
applied coloring.
Process Pictures can be found unframed and unmatted as a large quantity
was left over when the Nutting Studio closed. |
