Wallace Nutting Library

Iron Works House, Hollyhocks
Studio (#7420)
see note below

This exterior picture of the Saugus Iron Works House that Wallace Nutting owned in Saugus, MA, was used by him in a book his publishing company, "Old America Company" printed titled Pathway of the Puritans, (pg 173).

This house was also illustrated in his book, Massachusetts Beautiful on pg 120 of the first edition and on pg 102 of the second edition.

Other picture made at the Saugus Iron Works House include:

Chintz and Chat, #9311 An Interrupted Letter, #9315
Ready for Callers, #9317 The Rug Maker, #9322
"Affectionately Yours", #9324 Braiding A Straw Hat, #9326
A Stirring Scene, #9328 An Ancestral Chamber, #9332
Apples From The Cellar, #9333

Note: A common method of identifying pictures in the studio before they were matted and titled was to write the studio number on the back of the picture. In this case, Iron Works House, Hollyhocks, which had a copyright date of 1915 had the number '7420' written on it. This number is listed to a different picture. While it is not at all uncommon for two pictures to be listed with the same studio number, I am not convinced that Wallace Nutting had intended for this picture to be marketed with that studio number. In the absence of other supporting evidence and until I can confirm more pictures with this number and title I will only suggest that the studio number for this picture might be "7420."
