This picture was made inside Wallace Nutting's Framingham, Massachusetts, home he called Nuttingholm and was advertised for sale in Nutting's 1915 Expansible Sales catalog on page 466.
Wallace Nutting made several similar scenes set in this room. Three that I can confirm are: "A Musical Reverie" studio # 1509, "The Tangled Skein" studio # 1510, and "A Virginia Reel" studio # 4008.
At the time this photograph was made Wallace Nutting recorded that the Settle was 242 years old. "The family who constructed this.." Nutting wrote: "..evidently originated the idea of utilizing the high settle back for a bookshelf. The effect of placing thus against the wall is good. It would hardly answer if the seat were to be drawn up to a fireplace."
Prior to moving his home and photography business to Framingham, MA, in 1912, Nutting also photographed this Settle at 'Nuttinghame' his Southbury, CT, home. The title to two pictures that were made in Connecticut are: "A Nuttinghame Nook" studio # 748, and "The Book Settle" studio # 750.
