| Private and Confidential - Studio # 150

This picture was made in Nutting's Southbury, CT, home he called, "Nuttinghame" and is copyright 1912. Nutting made several other pictures in this series. Two that I have been able to identify are: From A Friend, #159, where a change in the format and repositioning of the arms appears to be the only difference, and, The News in Brief, #254, in which Nutting added furnishings and two additional models. Another picture with the model standing is, The Old Story.

Wallace Nutting wrote about this picture: "The note, read in the retirement of her chamber, by the fair lady in 'Private and Confidential' is no doubt all that the name implies. The fireplaces in the chambers were small - just enough for a bit of a blaze to "take the chill off." The bed, a corner of which intrudes, is of the Empire pattern, with the large carved post."
A very similar picture to "Private and Confidential" with the model holding a jewelry box and the envelope and letter on the braided rug, at her feet was sold with the title The Jewel Box, studio # 99.
