The first eight titles were published by Nutting's Old America Company. New York Beautiful and England Beautiful were published by Dodd, Mead & Company. They are the only two that have a color picture opposite the title page; The only two to be sold in a protective slip case; (Rare to find England Beautiful in a slip case but I know of only two New York Beautiful in a slip case.) New York, England and Virginia Beautiful were sold without a dust jacket. |

As early as 1924 Wallace Nutting was promoting the publication of Florida Beautiful; and in 1928 the publication of New Jersey Beautiful and California Beautiful in two volumes, but these never went to press. Some hand written notes for Florida Beautiful have surfaced and have even been printed for distribution by collectors. No such printing was ever done by Wallace Nutting.
A rare copy of England Beautiful, first edition, and, New York Beautiful, first edition, was issued in a protective slip case with a glassine cover over the book. England Beautiful is a green sleeve with the picture All Sunshine attached and New York Beautiful has a white label with the picture Sycamore and Elm. Of the first edition States Beautiful it is possible to find Virginia Beautiful autographed by Wallace Nutting. I have only seen one copy of New Hampshire Beautiful autographed by Wallace Nutting and regret having sold it. While Pennsylvania is known as the Eastern edition I have never read or heard of any plans to publish a Western edition. At least one copy of Wallace Nutting's 'Vermont Beautiful' first edition was made with a full leather binding and uncut edges. Since it appeared to be original and not a re-cover I suspect it was a special edition or a prototype. In the 1970's Bonanza Books reprinted the series. These are not generally associated with Wallace Nutting or sought after by collectors but mostly held for their content. |
